Fiorentina 1-2 Samp: report, photos, highlights

02 October 2020

Fiorentina suffered defeat to Sampdoria in the Friday night Serie A match as Federico Chiesa saw his last-gasp effort come back off the post for what would have been a share of the spoils.

In the first match with spectators back at the Stadio Franchi - 1,000 in total, including health workers from six Florence-based hospitals - Fabio Quagliarella opened the scoring for the hosts when he won and converted a penalty shortly before half time.

The Viola went looking for an equaliser after the break and got one when Dusan Vlahovic finished smartly with 20 minutes left to play.

However, Valerio Verre produced what proved to be the winner when he collected Emil Audero's clearances and lobbed Bartlomiej Dragowski from the edge of the box

In the dying seconds Chiesa collected Riccardo Saponara's pass and burst into the box only to see his low effort frustratingly come back off the post.
