Pisa v Fiorentina: previous meetings and former players

The first time Fiorentina and Pisa met was all the way back on October 3, 1926 and it was actually our first-ever competitive game, in Matchday 1 of Prima Divisione Group C. The Viola ran out 3-1 winners, defeating the team that had finished as Italian runners-up just five years earlier. Rodolfo Volk scored Fiorentina's first-ever goal and was the star of our maiden campaign, going on to notch 11 goals.

Pisa have only beaten Fiorentina once in 14 top-flight meetings – a 2-1 victory in November 1987) and have failed to score in the last five. There have been six draws and seven Viola wins, with 22 goals for Fiorentina and seven for Pisa.

Fiorentina have won the last three encounters with Pisa, scoring at least three goals each time without conceding any. Indeed, Pisa have failed to score in their last five Serie A matches against us.

Some of the most memorable matches played in Pisa over the years include a 2-0 Coppa Italia victory in 1968/69 and a 4-0 drubbing the last time these two sides met at the Arena Garibaldi.

Fiorentina's top scorers against Pisa are Gabriel Batisuta and Daniel Passarella with three each, while Pisa's is Ciro Muro with two.

Stefano Pioli has faced Pisa four times without losing (W3, D1) and has won one and drawn one of his two meetings with Alberto Gilardino (while in charge of AC Milan).

The current Pisa boss spent four seasons at Fiorentina between 2008 and 2012 and in 2014/15, racking up 52 goals.

Former Viola midfielder Alberto Aquilani scored 13 goals in three seasons in Florence, before going on to coach Pisa in Serie B in 2023/24.

Among the footballers to have donned the jerseys of both teams are Renzo Contratto and Marco Faccenda (eight and five seasons respectively in Viola), Brazil star Dunga, who joined Fiorentina from Pisa in 1988/89, Christian Vieri (one season in Florence), Christian Amoroso and Andrea Lazzarri, as well as current Pisa players Juan Cuadrado and M'Bala Nzola.
