Match report: Fiorentina 1-1 Inter

The matchday 30 clash between Fiorentina and Inter ended in a 1-1 draw, with a goal by Pio Esposito in the first half and a second one by Cher Ndour in the second half. Fiorentina therefore secured a precious point to add to its positive streak of recent games.

Inter took the lead following their first play in the match: Nicolo Barella’s cross into the box found Pio Esposito, who successfully headed it in, with David De Gea unable to stop him.

Fiorentina fought back in the 16th minute as Albert Gudmundsson found Moise Kean: the forward shifted the ball onto his right and took his shot, but Yann Sommer gathered it at the second attempt. Barella then found Esposito once again in the 19th minute, with the latter turning and firing a shot that went just wide. Just two minutes later, Dodo provided a good cross to Gudmundsson who connected with a header, with the effort however missing the target. Kean then had a huge chance in the 29th minute: after receiving the ball from Marco Brescianini, he missed the target from close range. An exciting first half by Fiorentina came to an end with the team still one goal down.

The second half was very consistent with the first: Inter pressed high and Fiorentina had bursts of pressure. Cher Ndour suddenly made an attempt in the 71st minute, after a duel between Kean and Inter’s defence, which created some problems for the visitors’ goalkeeper. Just after that, Jack Harrison provided a good cross into the box, which was cleared out by Inter’s defence. Then Nicolo Fagioli made an attempt but sent it to the side of the goal.

Ndour scored the equalizer for Fiorentina in the 77th minute: a set-piece by Gudmundsson, a deflection to the side by Sommer and then Fiorentina’s number 27 was the first to get to the ball and score. After that, Ndour took an individual initiative in the 80th minute and then passed it to Gudmundsson, but his right-footed shot went high. Later on, Fiorentina started pressing high and winning the ball back high up the pitch, with Harrison taking aim, making a left-footed attempt that just barely missed the target. Then in the 94th minute Pio Esposito got a huge chance, turning and shooting, but De Gea made a great save and deflected the ball to the side. The match then came to an end: a 1-1 draw with the hosts always 100% focused and often able to create problems for Inter’s defense.
