Women suffer away defeat at Inter

13 May 2023

Fiorentina were on the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Inter on Saturday – a scoreline which doesn't tell half the story.

The hosts took a goal's advantage in at the break courtesy of Polli's low drive five minutes before the interval.

The Viola came out  rejuvenated after the restart and went at the Nerazzurre hammer and tongs.

Longo had two big chances to equalise but sent the ball wide after it pinged around in the box. She then attempted an overhead kick which missed the target.

Patrizia Panic's side continued to fashion one opening after another with Inter pegged back in their own half but conceded an unfortunate second against the run of play.

Chawinga latched onto a long ball over the top and unleashed a shot, which Baldi saved – only for the ball to ricochet back off the Malawian striker and into the goal via a deflection off Tortelli.

The second goal took the wind out of the Viola's sails. They continued to push forward for a goal but would be caught on the counter twice again by Chawinga before the final whistle.

Fiorentina Women will end the season with a home fixture – at the Stadio Franchi - against Juventus next Sunday.
