Coppa Italia: Fiorentina Women win at Verona to advance

08 January 2023

Fiorentina Women produced an excellent performance against Hellas Verona on Sunday to progress to the next round of the Coppa Italia. Following the victory over Genoa in their opening game, the Viola's 4-0 victory allowed the team to claim top spot in Group E.

After a minute's silence in honour of Ernesto Castano and Gianluca Vialli, Fiorentina were at the races straight from kick off. Zsanett Kajan broke the deadlock after just 12 minutes, firing a diagonal shot that went in off the post, and Emma Severini added a second before the 20-minute mark with a header. The Viola were in total control and put the result to bed before the interval, as Alexandra Johannsdottir finished from an excellent cross.

Milica Mijatovic added a fourth goal on 58 minutes, producing a sumptuous dinked finish to give the away side a handsome victory that secures progression to the quarter-final.

Next up for Patrizia Panico's team, however, is a league clash with current leaders Roma.
