Conference League: Italiano and Martinez Quarta press conference

04 October 2023

Here's a selection of quotes from Vincenzo Italiano and Lucas Martinez Quarta's media conference the day before Fiorentina v Ferencvaros in Europa Conference League Matchday 2.

ITALIANO

FERENCVAROS - “Tomorrow is an important match and we must try to take maximum points by performing very well and staying fully focused. We must make home advantage count, while respecting our opponents. I want to see a Fiorentina team that knows what it wants to do. Every team in Europe has a strong mentality so we must be switched on and ready.”

BIRAGHI - “Cristiano is better and he trained with the rest of the team today. I hope he's able to play tomorrow because we need to rest players and because he's a key player for us. [Oliver] Christensen will start in goal.”

STANKOVIC - “We were often on opposite sides as players and it will be nice to face him in the dugout. He's a great person who I have a lot of time for. He's an excellent coach and I'm sure he'll have come in with enthusiasm and ideas. He's doing very well.”

INFANTINO – "Gino is a young player who's adapting to a new club and league. He's come back from injury. There's a lot of competition in his position but he has huge margin for improvement.”

SUPER CUP - “We've seen that the dates have been changed but that's something we'll worry about further down the line. We're focused on the present. It will be an good opportunity for us and when the time comes we'll go there to fight for the trophy.”

MARTINEZ QUARTA

SUMMER - “The transfer talk is in the past now. I was close to leaving in the summer but I'm happy in Florence now. We're doing an excellent job and we must keep going like this.”

FORM - “I take my job seriously and give 100% in training every day. I'm enjoying the moment. When things go well we're all happy. I'm playing consistently and confidently. I want to keep performing at this high level.”

CONFERENCE LEAGUE - “This competition is really important to us. We want to give it our best and go on a good run – hopefully all the way.”

ARGENTINA - “It would be a great achievement to earn an Argentina recall. To do that I have to keep playing as I am.”
