Inter Women came out on top in the second match of Group B in the Serie A Women's Cup. The Nerazzurre triumphed 3-1 at the Arena Civica and now lead the group having not dropped a single point.
Elisa Polli and Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir got the hosts off to a flying start, both getting on the scoresheet within five minutes of play. However, Fiorentina quickly shored things up and were able to compete in the game.
The turning point came in the 60th minute when coach Palo Pinones Arce opted for a quadruple substitution. The changes had a big impact and soon after Fiorentina pulled a goal back from Sofie Bredgaard, and Sarah Wijnants nearly levelled the scores for the visitors.
Despite Fiorentina’s superiority Inter went on to make a decisive breakthrough, making it 3-1 through Haley Bugeja, who was subsequently sent off. The Nerazzurre were able to hold onto their lead despite their numerical inferiority.
Next up for Fiorentina is Genoa at home on Sunday, September 14 at the Curva Fiesole stadium in the third and final matchday of the Serie A Women's Cup group stage.
