Fiorentina fail to score against Parma: the goalless draw was a bitter disappointment for Pablo Pinones Arce’s team, who failed to secure all three points despite their many plays and chances. The Viola did everything they could at the Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park to break through and score, but Parma’s defense remained impenetrable throughout the whole game, with the visitors focusing exclusively on not conceding in the second half.
The match started with a series of attacks from both sides. The first to take the initiative was Hlin Eiriksdottir, who found the ball on the left flank thanks to a great assist from Emma Faerge. The Icelandic player moved towards the box, dribbled past three opponents and took a powerful shot aiming for the bottom corner, but Caterina Ambrosi denied her with a miraculous save.
Giovanni Valenti’s team got their best chance in the tenth minute: Annahita Zamanian won the ball on the edge of the box and immediately took her shot, but Fiorentina’s Cecilie Fiskerstrand was alert and kept it out.
In the second half, Fiorentina proved to be the more pro-active side. Parma focused more on defending and not taking too many risks, leaving very few spaces and not conceding any clear chances to the hosts.
As the match was about to end, Fiorentina got a huge chance. Oda Johansen provided a cross from the flank and Michela Catena trapped it in the middle of the box: the number 10 masterfully connected with the ball and volleyed it, but Carlotta Masu threw herself in the way and prevented the Viola player from scoring. That was the final major chance in the game, with Parma obtaining what they wanted and Fiorentina being denied victory.
Now Pinones Arce’s Fiorentina must move on immediately: their priority now is their high-stakes game next week. They will be facing Juventus in Biella on 29 March for the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
