It was a cagey match, with a lot of rain and fog and an opponent that sat deep from beginning to end. In this tough afternoon match, Fiorentina nevertheless took home one point, as the game in Noceto ended 1-1: Emma Severini scored the opener and Gaia Distefano netted the equalizer for Parma, with the game ending in a draw.
After making a few changes to their Starting XI, Fiorentina started the match and dominated from the start. They were constantly attacking Parma and came close to taking the lead with a shot from Madelen Janogy, one of the best players of the match, and one from Emma Snerle.
The first goal came in the second half: Lina Hurtig broke through Parma’s defense, moved toward the goal and was knocked down. Fiorentina were awarded a penalty kick, which Severini converted. The Fiorentina captain maintains her perfect record from the spot, having scored her fourth penalty goal out of four.
However, the team barely had the time to celebrate, as Parma immediately equalized with their first real play in the game. Distefano found space and beat the goalkeeper, making it 1-1. From that moment on, Fiorentina started pressing high again, which culminated in the 78th minute when a Janogy shot beat the keeper but was saved off the goal line by a Parma defender.
The hosts did everything they could to not concede again, and Fiorentina failed to score a second goal. The weather just made matters worse, with heavy rain making the ball hard to control.
The match ended with the teams earning one point each: an important point for both sides that affects their league standing. Fiorentina are now just one point away from being top of the table, as they wait for the remaining Sunday fixtures and prepare for next week’s game against Juventus in Biella.
