Women battle to victory in rain-soaked Milan clash

Fiorentina Women secured three hard-fought points as they edged past AC Milan with an outstanding defensive display amidst a downpour on Saturday afternoon.

Madelen Janogy struck the only goal of the game on 18 minutes. Sofie Bredgaard sent her through on goal and the Swedish striker rounded the keeper before tucking away her finish – the 699th goal for Fiorentina Women in all competitions.

In the second half Agnese Bonfantini collected a second yellow card, meaning the Viola had to cling on at the end, fighting tooth and nail for every ball in the mud.

However, the Fiorentina wall stood firm and Pablo Arce Pinones's side take home the points, moving up 21 in the standings ahead of next week's visit of Sassuolo.
