Viery: “Fiorentina’s project won me over”

Fiorentina’s new defender faced the press at the Wind Tre Media Center at the Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park. Here’s some of what the Brazilian had to say:

SIGNING - “First of all, I’d like to thank the Commisso family and Gremio for the opportunity I’ve been given. Fiorentina’s project immediately won me over. What’s more, Florence is a beautiful city, so I didn’t need to think twice.”

ROLE – “I grew up playing as a full-back until I was 17, then I started playing as a centre-back. For me, playing is what matters, not the position – I’m ready to fill in anywhere the coach needs me.”

SHIRT NUMBER – “I’ve gone for number 33. I chose it because number 44 was already taken.”

NATIONAL TEAM – “Every footballer dreams of playing for the national team, and I’m no different. I’ll do my utmost to make it happen one day.”

NAME – “I was given the name Viery because my father was a big fan of Christian Vieri.”

IDOLS – “I’d say Sergio Ramos and some former team-mates at Gremio.”

MOISE KEAN – “He’s an important player for Fiorentina and he’s very difficult to mark, even in training. Defending against him will help me develop as a footballer.”

FABIO GROSSO – “The coach has told me what I need to do. I’ll learn a lot from him because he’s got a wealth of experience.”

VIOLA LEGENDS – “Dunga stands out. He was a truly great player who wore the Viola jersey with pride.”
