Paolo Vanoli held a press conference after Fiorentina beat Venezia 4-2 in Serie A. This is what he had to say:

“What we achieved last season needs to be put on the shelf now as it belongs to the past. The team has changed so much – there are just a few of the guys I had last year – and we need to look to the future. We need to create an identity and I told the players not to look at the result but the identity we're building. We have a young, talented team and they showed that tonight, but when you're young, you make mistakes. Having spent nine years working with Italy youth teams, I was excited to come and work with these players.

"The most important thing is that we become a team because talent has to be put at the service of the team. Franco [Mastantuono] did that tonight because besides his goals he worked hard defensively too.

"It's also essential that you always stay in the game and we did that after falling behind and we responded well. Today we laid the first brick in the construction of our future.”
