Coach Paolo Vanoli held a press conference following Fiorentina’s draw with Parma on matchday 36 of the 2025/26 Serie A season.
Do you want to dedicate securing safety to the club’s late president?
“Absolutely. When the club signed me, he asked for something very important, given the team’s situation in the table and the fear of what might happen. I want to dedicate today’s result to him. The Commisso family are doing great things for Florence. They’ve built an amazing sporting facility. They’re building a great, modern stadium.
“Of course, mistakes have been made throughout this season, but the team – with the help of everyone else at the club – has done a good job at turning things around. Securing safety was something I deeply cared about, for the club, the city, our fans, and because next year will be Fiorentina’s 100th anniversary. When I first arrived here, there was a lot of fear about what lay ahead. Now we need to move on and be happy.”
The team got booed at the end of the game. Did you expect that?
“The players knew that they had to do more. Fans have the right to show their disappointment and deserve a completely different Fiorentina. However, we had a goal to reach and we succeeded in reaching it. I did what the club asked of me and I did so with a team that I had not built. I did something that had never been done before in 11 games. That being said, Fiorentina and our fans deserve a lot more. I’m sure that the club will do a great job at creating a top-level squad for the next season.”
Have you already talked about your future at the club?
“We’ve discussed organizational matters. I have the utmost respect for this club and I’m sure they’ll make the right decision. All I can say is that I’ve given everything to reach this objective. It’s something that I did together with the players. Now we must finish the season well and keep up the good work we’ve been doing throughout the second half of the season, except for our game in Rome. There are two achievements I’m very proud of: winning the Coppa Italia with Fiorentina 25 years ago and helping Fiorentina avoid relegation this season. Now I want to enjoy this success because it wasn’t easy and it’s a very important result.”
