Paolo Vanoli held a press conference after Fiorentina's 2-1 win at Como. Here's what he had to say:
Growth
“When you're in charge of a big club and your objectives change, when you're scrapping at the bottom, you have to learn different things and it's not always easy. The team has been improving. We've thrown away some important points but today we showed we're on the right track. These three points are good for morale but we have 13 more finals to play. We have the Conference League now, which is also important, then after that we have a six-pointer in Serie A.”
Ranieri
“I've always said that Luca is an important player for this team. Wearing the captain's armband doesn't change that. Obviously what happened could have affected him a bit but today he showed how strong he is and what he has to offer this team, both psychologically and technically. I'm very happy with him.”
Como
“Como are one of the big teams now and we knew we might have to let them have the ball at times. If you press them high, they get their wide players in behind. Our midfield did an amazing job today. We read the game well, especially certain situations with their goalkeeper, who is almost like a playmaker. We did really well – maybe a bit less well in the first half on the second balls when were trying to stretch them. We kept our composure in the closing minutes. Dodo for example was much calmer than he was at the end of the Torino match. We must maintain this spirit in every game.”
Gosens
“Robin is fine. [Fabiano] Parisi is a reliable player who had a great game today and I'm lucky to have the choice. Gosens has struggled a bit physically because he was out for three months and although we managed his game time and increased it gradually, I expected him to get to a point where he found it hard to recover. He looked a lot better this week and he'll be a big help to the team – as he is in the dressing room.”
Harrison
“[Jack] Harrison gives us intensity with his running and his determination. He had some great seasons at Leeds with [Marcelo] Bielsa. Tactically he's very astute. He gives us a lot of balance. He's play at wing-back in his career so he could play in lots of different positions if needed. Some of our players have brought one-on-one quality and he's brought intensity. He's an important player for us.”
