Paolo Vanioli delivered a post match press conference following his side’s 4-1 triumph away at Cremonese. Here’s some of what our coach had to say:
“I felt that this was our best performance of the season so far. From the way we passed the ball to the quality of the goals, everything proved that as a team we’re on the up. I’ve been saying for a while that I’ve seen that we’ve been improving – today was the confirmation of this progress. Getting a win off the back of a European fixture is never straightforward, especially given we had only a few days to prepare, but we handled it very well.
“I was very happy with our composure. We were up against a team that tried to cause us problems with long balls and their physicality, but we held firm. We stuck to our gameplan.
“That being said, I’m not totally satisfied. Even when we were three goals to the good we didn’t let up in our intensity – instead we should’ve slowed things down, managed possession and conserved our energy. This is important given that we’ve got another important match coming very soon.
“We prepared this match like we always do - by sticking together and working hard. The difference now compared to earlier in the season is our resilience. It’s not been a rosy campaign but what didn’t kill us has made us stronger.
“We’re yet to achieve our goal. There are nine games left to play, so we’ve still got a long way to go.
“Looking ahead, our focus shifts immediately to the next match. The Conference League second leg will be a tough prospect, especially following tonight’s exertions.”
