A special day for Florence: Calcio Storico, St. John, the city’s patron saint, and the “fochi.”

A special day for Florence, featuring the Calcio Storico final, the feast of St. John, the city’s patron saint, and the traditional “fochi.” In 2019, it was Rocco B. Commisso himself who was invited as Magnifico Messere, along with his family, to celebrate the match on the sand field of Santa Croce.

That June 24, 2019, began with Mass in the Duomo, a greeting to the crowd at Palazzo Vecchio, and continued with the historical procession. We want to remember that special day and a special person like President Rocco B. Commisso: a man who left his mark on the history of Florence and whose legacy is carried on by his family.

In recent days, some of his words—which you can find in this video—have come back to mind through social media; words, as always, dedicated to young people and the future. “If you want to be a good leader, you have to lead by example,” he said, “and to young people I say, ‘Listen to your parents, go to school… go to school… go to school’ (with a smile—ed.).”
