Tariq Lamptey facts and stats

A warm welcome to Tariq Lamptey!

Born on September 30, 2000 in London, he joined the Chelsea academy when he was just eight years old, progressing through the ranks before breaking into the first team in 2019.

He made his Premier League debut for the Blues under Frank Lampard that same year in December against Arsenal. In January 2020 he moved to Brighton, making over 103 appearances and scoring three goals.

Lamptey had previously played for the England U18, U19, U20 and U21 national teams but went on to choose to represent the Ghana national team at senior level, making his debut in 2022. He has made 11 appearances for the senior national team to date.

He is a right-back who can also play as a wing-back due to his great running ability. He excels in one-on-one situations, thanks to his low center of gravity and lighting fast reactions. He was given the nickname "Rocket" because of his incredible pace and it's no coincidence that in the Premier League he recorded top speeds of nearly 23 mph, making him among the league’s speediest players. He also averaged over two successful dribbles per game in his best seasons with Brighton.

In his last season at the club (2024/25), he provided four assists and created over 25 goalscoring opportunities.

Lamptey is the eighth Ghanaian ever to represent Fiorentina, following in the footsteps of Bismark Ekye, Amidu Salifu, Daniel Kofi Agyei, Maxwell Acosty, Nii Nortey Ashong, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Alfred Duncan.
