Simon Sohm reflected on his goal and the team’s performance in the 2-1 defeat to Mainz on Thursday in the Conference League, while looking ahead to the crucial weekend showdown with Genoa.
“We tried to play better with the ball, with more intensity and confidence, and I think we did well in the first half, even though they had a few chances.
"In my opinion, we had a good first half today, but you can see that right now confidence isn’t quite there, and when things don’t go your way, you end up conceding late like we did for their second goal. We just have to keep going.
“Now we have a very important match on Sunday. We need to do even better than today, but we can certainly keep moving in this direction.
“It’s also important for me that I scored a goal, and now I want to keep going like this. That’s the target.
“Now our focus is on Genoa. It’s like a final for us. Let’s keep going.
“The fans are always by our side. That means a lot to us too.”
