Daniele Rugani shared his initial thoughts with us after completing his move to the club on deadline day.
As a Tuscan yourself, how does it feel to wear the Fiorentina jersey?
“It's a bit like coming home, to my homeland. I'm really happy. It feels like home. It's a nice feeling.”
You've joined the club with Fiorentina in a difficult league position. What can you bring to the team with your experience and track record?
“Yeah, we're in a tight spot. I don't think the team deserves to be in this position but it is what it is. We all have to pull together to get out of it. I'll try to bring my qualities on and off the pitch, as well as a bit of experience that I can perhaps offer to the younger guys we have here who are very good. I'm want to give my all to help the coach and the team achieve a target that's incredibly important.”
You've played with some of your new team-mates before. Have you spoken to them?
“Yes, I spoke to a few of them, and Nicolo [Fagioli] especially. He was very happy when I told him I'd be joining him.”
You'll be playing in front of David De Gea and you've played with some great goalkeepers in the past. How important is it to have a figure like him behind you?
“It's very important. He's an amazing player with loads of international experience. He's got everything this team needs, both on a technical and a motivational-mental level. He's a key player and it's a massive plus having someone like him behind you.”
What are your personal goals and what are the targets for the team this season?
“To be honest, I'm totally focused on the collective, more than on a personal level. Obviously I want to lend a hand and feel important for this team, but the team and the team's goal comes first and I'll give my all to help us achieve it.”
