Marin Pongracic sat down with journalists after impressing in Fiorentina's 1-1 draw with his former club Lecce.
Here's what he had to say:
Do you think Fiorentina could have done a bit more in the second half to hold onto the win?
“It's a very important point. Obviously we'd have liked to win but a draw is a very good result as it maintains the distance between us and Lecce. We knew it was going to be difficult. I've been here two years and I know that these games are never easy, even for the big teams. Lecce always play with tremendous spirit and when the crowd comes to life it's very difficult.
“I think we played well in the first half. Perhaps we could have done better but at the end of the day we can be happy with the point.”
You conceded another goal from a set-piece today. Is that something you need to work on for next season?
“Whenever you concede a goal, there's always something you could have done better. We knew that set-pieces were one of Lecce's strengths as they have a lot of big, tall players. We do need to defend better against them but in football you make mistakes and you concede goals, otherwise every game would finish 0-0. We want to improve but it's a process.”
Would you say that today was one of your best personal performances of the season?
“I put my heart and soul into it because I knew how important this game was. We knew that if we won we'd be 99% sure of staying up. I'm happy that I was able to help the team. I don't know if it was one of my best performances – you'll have to ask the coach!”
Speaking of heart, did you leave a piece of your heart in Lecce?
“Yes, of course. I had a wonderful experience here after coming from Germany, where I had some difficulties. I was able to play regularly for the first time in my career. In the second season I played almost every match and that was very important for me. Away from the field, I fell in love with everything around the club. This is my first time back here after two years and it's really nice to see lots of people again.”
