Pioli: “Convinced we’ll improve”

Stefano Pioli delivered a press conference after his side’s 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina. Here’s some of what our boss had to say:

“We were well-organised in the first half. We were tight and had clear ideas. We kept it compact and didn’t give a lot of chances to Inter. As the game went on they upped the tempo and we were unable to stand the pressure they put on us. Quality players can hurt you. When they upped the ante we dropped off. After the goal we struggled to react because they took control of the game.

“I came to Florence promising great things and unfortunately we’re in the position that we find ourselves in. We’ll get out of this predicament – I’m convinced of this. We’re in a position in which we need to dig deep, stay tight and show on the pitch that we’re better than our league position indicates.

“I’m not thinking about my future and whether the Lecce game could be my final one at the helm here. Let’s be clear – we’ve gone nine games without a win and we’re playing at home against Lecce. It won’t be easy but it’s clear that the only result worth anything is a win. That’s how we need to approach it. As for what comes after, I don’t know what will happen.  I haven’t thought about resigning.”
