Read Roberto Piccoli’s post-match comments following Fiorentina’s draw against Genoa.
It really looked like you were determined to earn those three points today.
“Yes. It wasn’t an easy match. The pitch was in very bad condition and it was hard to play on it. The atmosphere created by their fans also had an impact on us. We played well, but we got unlucky. We conceded a goal and I think there was a foul. Their goalkeeper saved a shot I took. We’re disappointed.
“But this must be a point that marks a new beginning for us. the coach believes in us and has encouraged us, and we needed it. We’ll have to work a lot during this international break. We must improve our physical condition, me included. We must improve from every point of view because we are Fiorentina and must play like Fiorentina.”
The coach looked very invested and the team was more aggressive.
“He likes to press high and I agree. That’s how we need to play. Then stay compact and respond with a counter-attack. We must be able to sit deep and press high.”
You scored and came close to scoring a second goal.
“I try to be ready throughout the game. I’m working to improve physically. I haven’t played much lately so I’m a bit behind in terms of fitness. But I know I can and must make a difference. I’m happy overall. It’s a shame that that shot got saved. We’re very unlucky lately. But we just have to keep working.”
Now you have a two-week break to do everything you can to improve.
“Yes, the coach has already said that he’ll make us work very hard and I’m very happy about that. We all are, because it’s what we need and what we currently lack. We have two tough weeks ahead, but we must do what needs to be done.”
