Dangerman Pululu back in action for Jagiellonia

For the second leg of their Conference League match Jagiellonia will have an additional string to their bow, thanks to the return of the player who can cause Fiorentina the most problems: Afimico Pululu. The Angolan striker is not only the Polish team's driving force but is also one of the players who has helped the club take a real step up in quality, in turn breaking the historic dominance of the most successful Polish teams.

His pedigree speaks for itself – he was the top scorer in last season's Conference League with eight goals and was a key part of the Jagiellonia side which reached the latter stages of the competition in the 2024/25 season. In recent campaigns he has fully established himself as one of the key figures in the Ekstraklasa.

Born in 1999, Pululu is a modern and dynamic centre forward who combines a number nine's eye for goal with the technique and pace that allow him to make an impact at every stage of the attack. Despite not having a typical target man stature, Pululu is very stocky and his low centre of gravity means that he is a tough proposition for defenders. He’s also lighting fast, with sprint speeds of up to 21 mph, which makes him a constant headache for opposing defences.

Tactically, he acts as a central pivot around which Jagiellonia base their game. When Jagiellonia are in possession the Angolan often tends to drop deep to the centre circle to create space the heart of the attack, drawing markers out of position before making use of his acceleration to move into open spaces. He has demonstrated excellent finishing ability both in the league and in Europe, including a spectacular overhead against Cercle Brugge.

Pululu really comes into his own on European nights, as evidenced by his crucial goals against Copenhagen and Molde. This season he has already recorded 15 goals and four assists, including five goals in the Conference League qualifying rounds alone. Beyond his goalscoring prowess, Pululu stands out for his self-sacrifice: his pressing is relentless, although his eagerness in this regard leads to him receiving too many bookings. In fact, he almost missed the two-legged tie against Fiorentina due to a red card. The suspension, which was initially more severe, was later reduced by UEFA, which means that he is eligible to play at the Franchi.
