Fiorentina and Parma have faced off 70 times before, with Fiorentina winning 25, Parma 19 and 26 draws. The Viola have scored 99 and the Gialloblu 77.

The all-time top scorer in this match is Hernan Crespo (seven goals), followed by Valeri Bojinov, Luca Toni, Marco Branca and Marco Di Vaio (four each). 

The most recent meeting at the Stadio Tardini was on 17 August 2024, the opening day of last season. That day it finished 1-1 with goals by Dennis Man and Cristiano Biraghi.

The Viola's last away win at Parma came in 2019/20: 2-1 thanks to a brace by Erick Pulgar.

Before taking the Fiorentina reins in 2005, Cesare Prandelli coached Parma from 2002 to 2004. There he helped to develop the likes of Sebastien Frey, Alberto Gilardino, Adrian Mutu, Marco Marchionni, Marco Donadel and Emiliano Bonazzoli, who all went on to play for Fiorentina

In 2005, Seba Frey became the first signing of Prandelli's reign in Florence, a few weeks after he proved decisive in the relegation play-off between Parma and Bologna. 

Adrian Mutu bagged 18 goals in 31 matches in his only season at Parma (2002/03) and teamed up with Prandelli once again at Fiorentina in 2006, where he formed a formidable strike duo with Luca Toni

Alberto Gilardino spent three seasons at Parma, racking up 23 Serie A goals in back-to-back campaigns (2003/04 and 2004/05).

Marco Marchionni earned his first Italy cap in 2003/04 under Prandelli's tutelage.

Marco Donadel and Emiliano Bonazzoli were both at Parma in 2003/04: the midfielder moved to Florence in January 2005 while the striker spent half a season at Fiorentina on loan in 2009.

Other former players who have plied their trade for both clubs since 1990/91 (Parma's first year in the top flight) include Alberto Di Chiara, Stefano Pioli, who came through the Parma ranks as a full-back before further developing at Fiorentina in the early '90s, Giovanni Galli, Diego Fuser, current Viola boss Paolo Vanoli, Domenico Morfeo, Abel Balbo, Michele Serena, fondly remembered Enrico Chiesa, Massimo Gobbi and Valeri Bojinov.

Gobbi played for Fiorentina between 2006 and 2010, including in the Champions League, and later had two spells at Parma (2010 to 2015 and in 2018/19), while Bojinov netted 11 goals for Parma in 2005-2006. 

Current Viola player Simon Sohm was brought to Italy by Parma and spent five years there before joining Fiorentina last summer.
