Ndour: “We needed this win”

Fiorentina's win over Sigma is a big morale boost for the team going into Sunday's match against Roma, says Cher Ndour.

The young midfielder was instrumental in the Viola's 2-0 Conference League victory, teeing up Roberto Piccoli for the first goal before smashing in a superb late second to put the game to bed.

Speaking after the final whistle, he began by explaining how the two goals came about.

“[Roberto and I] talked before the game and said we were going to play close together and that's how I managed to set him up. We were near each other on a second ball, I played it through for him and he did the rest.”

Your goal then killed the game off – and a fine strike it was too!

“It was a good goal and again it was the result of us doing what the boss asks us to. Even in the 94th minute, we kept pressing high and stayed compact as a unit, like for Piccoli's goal. We were all up together for that throw-in, [Albert] Gudmundsson gave me a nice lay-off and I hit it well.”

Today's result is just what you needed after a difficult period

“Yes, we needed this win. It's a morale boost against a good team in a different competition to Serie A. We're playing back to back and every match is important. On Sunday we have a massive game that's worth much more than just the three points.”

Roma will be no easy opponents...

“They're a great team – we all know that. They play with real intensity. But we're a good side ourselves and this win will give us confidence to go out there and play as well as we possibly can to try and get our first league win.”

You could tell by the way your team-mates hugged you at the end that you're a popular dressing-room figure.

“Let's say I'm lucky that everyone likes me! I'm just a chill guy who always gives his all in training, whether I'm playing or not. I think the team comes first, Fiorentina comes first. If everyone trains as hard as they can, sooner or later the results will come, as we saw today.”
