Read what Paolo Vanoli had to say at his post-match press conference following Fiorentina's 1-0 win away to Hellas Verona in Serie A.
“We've had some excellent performances in the last month, including our last one against Inter but it's been a pretty difficult week. We hoped to get a few of our injured players back and several didn't make it. We had a few on the bench who weren't really fit. Then there was the psychological blow for the Italians not going to the World Cup. I've always said the toughest games are the ones after the international break when you have to switch back on.
"The guys deserve a lot of credit because they really wanted this win today. I know how difficult it is to win at this ground having played here myself.
“It wasn't our best performance but sometimes in games like this, the points are more important than playing well. There could be lots of explanations for it, not least the missing players and the difficult week we had to prepare for it. However, I'm happy in many ways because the team played with the right spirit.
“There have been lots of games where we played well and got nothing from it – the last time we played Verona, for example. We deserved to win that but instead we lost.
“Now we have to stick together and try to get some players back for the Conference League.
“I'm happy that [Nicolo] Fagioli has finally scored a goal from the edge of the box – we've been trying to get him to score from there for ages!"
