Vanoli on Udinese defeat

Paolo Vanoli chewed over a disappointing display by Fiorentina after their 3-0 defeat to Udinese.

“We didn't show up today. The alarm bells started ringing on Thursday and we paid for it over 120 minutes. I told the players we can't keep building things up then falling down when we have the chance to take a leap forward. It's a mental thing: we need more grit and determination because we lost nearly all the second balls and the duels today. We're yet to find that mental consistency.”

On conceding goals from set-pieces

“Sometimes you don't always have the height to mark everyone effectively but on the first goal tonight we simply lost the man [Kabasele]. I keep going on about being alert but we weren't at the races today and that's what most annoys me. Now we need to look ahead to our next home game and win it.”

On maintaining focus

“Before this game, we'd made a lot of progress from a mental perspective in terms of being compact but today we switched off. We have to get better at staying switched on. When you're not determined enough, you come off second best in challenges and then you get worked up. The players have to look at themselves, take responsibility and understand how important the run-in is. We have some important relegation six-pointers coming up at home and we must make sure we win them.”
