Coach Paolo Vanoli held a press conference and discussed Fiorentina’s draw with Sassuolo.
Why would you say that you failed to capitalize on your chances today?
“It was a lack of determination and sharpness in front of the goal. It has nothing to do with us lacking a striker today. [Albert] Gudmundsson executed the role he was assigned very well. We didn’t capitalize on the chances we got, but we still put in a very good performance against a team that is playing very well.
“We made a few mistakes, for example [Nicolo] Fagioli manage transitions better when dealing with counter-attacks, especially because Sassuolo have scored more than 50% of their goals on the counter. In any case, I think we deserved to win this one because we had many chances and dominated the match. However, it’s still a point. We tried hard and did a good job because we’re a team. Also, over the past seven games we’ve only conceded three goals, so we’re growing in many ways.”
This is your seventh consecutive positive result. What would you tell the board to keep you for another season?
“I wouldn’t say anything. Our results speak for themselves. I love this city. We’re getting close to our goal. However, it’s not up to me.”
Was today’s match Fiorentina’s best game so far? What were your three best matches this season?
“I’d say that we’ve played many good matches because this team can put in some remarkable performances when the whole squad is available. We didn’t deserve to lose to Parma. The one against Bologna was also a good one, in fact we won that one. Our match against Como: we dominated that game against a top team. The game against Milan too. If you look back you’ll see that we had many good ones. What I like about our games is that even in the ones where we didn’t reach our objectives, we still played as a team.”
What about Moise Kean?
“Kean is working a lot because we need him. So he’s doing double sessions. And he’s doing everything he can to help us finish this season well.”
