The 26-year-old defender was unveiled today at the Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park. Here’s some of what our new signing had to say:
On the Fiorentina opportunity: "I had to adapt to a new country, but I’ve always tried to give my best. It’s an honor to be here."
On his fitness: "I was suffering with a minor niggle, but I’m already ready for the next match."
On what he can contribute: "I like to attack, so I think I can help the team by providing assists or scoring goals. Moise Kean scored a fantastic goal recently, and I hope to be able to provide plenty of assists for him."
On what he can prove: "I hadn't got opportunities in other leagues, but this year I’ve managed to learn a lot more. I’ll do everything I can to kick on."
On the differences between leagues: "Serie A offers different attacking options compared to the Portuguese top flight. This is a world-class competition."
On his season's objectives: "Fiorentina has started strong – the project here is really enticing. I’m approaching this challenge with great enthusiasm. We’ll do our utmost to finish the season with smiles on our faces."
On the Portuguese national team: "Every footballer dreams of playing for their national team. It’s a personal objective of mine, and I’ll do everything I can to achieve it."
On defensive positioning: "Coming to Italy has really helped me in this regard. In modern football, footballers are constantly forced to adapt. I think I’ve improved, and I hope to keep doing so."
On Fabio Grosso: "He’s a coach with fresh ideas, and he likes attacking football. We’ll try to improve with every training session."
On versatility: "The coach hasn't given me specific instructions on whether to stay back or push forward. There’s a lot of competition within the squad, which helps us keep improving. I’m also willing to play on the left flank or in a more advanced role."
Regarding his future and Fabio Paratici's words: "I spoke to the director and the coach, and I liked the ambition behind this project. I’ll aim to have a good season - I’m very happy to be here."
