Roberto Piccoli was unveiled to the media on Tuesday for his first press conference in the Media Center at Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park.
Read what he had to say below.
On Fiorentina: “It’s a wonderful group. Talks started at the end of last season. When my agent told me Fiorentina were interested, I was chuffed. I pushed to come here too. I’m so happy to be able to take this important step in my career. Each player has their own responsibilities, as in every team. I’ll give my all in training and matches. Even as an opponent, I’ve heard the roar of the Franchi and it makes your legs tremble. The fans are one of a kind. Lots of great forwards have played in Florence since Batistuta. I think he’s my inspiration.
“I was so excited when I signed my contract, not just for me but also for my parents, who have made so many sacrifices.”
On his position: “I’ve played up top on my own as well as with another striker. It’s up to the coach to decide what’s best for the team but I’m available.”
On Pioli: “I spoke to the coach and he played a key role in getting me here. Pioli is a well-respected and knowledgeable coach. I was even more convinced by the chance to play in Europe.”
On his future growth: “I got on straight away with Edin [Dzeko]. He sets an example because of the career he’s had and the hunger he still has during training. He really goes for it.”
On his shirt number: “I chose number 91 because I started out at 18 with it. There are also other personal reasons that I prefer to keep to myself.”
