Paolo Vanoli speaks about his and the club's vision for the future in an exclusive interview with acffiorentina.com:
“I'm very fond of this city, this club and these fans. I experienced an incredible high here as a player and everyone knows what we achieved last year, going on an incredible run to rescue the season. However, in football, you're always looking forward. We have a new blank page to write on and fortunately we started off on the right foot. Now we need to write lots more nice things.
“The first thing a young, rejuvenated team like ours needs to understand is what Florence and Florentines expect from them. That has to be at the basis. I think they got the message against Venezia because this is a very talented team but talent alone is no good unless you use it to help your team-mates. Fiorentina fans don't fall in love with results – they fall in love with players who give blood, sweat and tears for the shirt. We've laid the first brick but we must keep building our house.
“I've played for big clubs alongside amazing players and great coaches, and I've learned that if you don't play as a team, you might win a match or two but you can't win anything significant.
“This is the start of something new and I have to build an identity. I've told the players not to look at the result but at the path we need to take. We have a very different objective to last season. The team has been completely overhauled, with lots of talented youngsters brought in, and it's up to me to channel their ability into a team unit.
“This club, the Commisso family, have laid the foundations for a new era.”
