Our new signing Mateo Pellegrino gave his first interview to our media team after completing his move from Parma.

The 24-year-old developed in the youth academies of Valencia and Inter before joining Velez Sarsfield, where he made his senior debut. 

He is already familiar with Serie A, having spent the last two seasons at Parma. Last year, he scored 12 goals and got one assist in 39 league and cup appearances.

Mateo, welcome to Florence! How does it feel to be here?

“It's a very happy moment. I'm thrilled to have joined this club. I feel very proud. I can't wait to get started and do my best for Fiorentina."

What's your first impression of our training center?

“It's incredible. I've never seen a training ground like this before. All the facilities are amazing. I'm looking forward to using them and getting to know my new team-mates.”

What made you decide to take up this new challenge?

“This is a club with a great history, where lots of top players have played before. When people link your name with Fiorentina, obviously you feel honored. That's why I chose this club.”

You've already shown what you can do in Serie A with Parma. What's the next step for you personally at Fiorentina?

“I want to do even better if possible. I try my best every day to improve as a player and as a person. Now I want to do all I can to help Fiorentina.” 

Why did you choose the number 32 shirt?

“It's the number I made my debut in, and then I had it at Parma. I like the number. That's why I chose it.”

What kind of striker are you?

“I try to play with as much intensity as possible. I try to help the team, work hard for my team-mates and I like scoring goals.”

Do you know any of your new team-mates already?

“I spoke to Franco [Mastantuono]. He wrote to me as soon as he heard I might be coming here. I haven't had the chance to meet the others yet but I can't wait.”

Lots of Argentines have donned the Fiorentina jersey before you. Is there anyone in particular you look up to?

“Obviously the first name that comes to mind is Gabriel Batistuta. He did so much here. Let's see if I'm able to do something like him.”

Finally, do you have a message for the fans?

“I want to thank them for all the messages they've been sending me. I can't wait to see them on the pitch.”
