19-year-old academy goalkeeper Gianmaria Fei spoke to us about his first week of pre-season training with the senior squad at Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park.
Last year you were one of the stars of the Primavera team that won the league. This season you've begun pre-season training with the first team. How's it going?
“Last year we had an amazing season with the coach. This year is going really well. I knew the group of goalkeepers already because I trained with them from time to time last year. It's a great group to work with. We like to laugh and joke around. I get on well with all the outfield players too.”
David De Gea had a lot of praise for you during Sunday's joint training session. How does it feel to receive compliments from a world-class player like him?
“It's quite incredible because he was one of my idols when I was young. I used to look up to him. It's amazing really.”
What personal goals have you set yourself for this season?
“I haven't set any goals but I hope to spend as much time as possible with the first team. I'd also like to help the Primavera team achieve something important like last year.”
Have you met the new Primavera coach Aurelio Andreazzoli?
“Yes, we met a few weeks ago. He asked me about where I'm from and where I live. He seems to be very down to earth, a very nice person.”
