Fabio Grosso shared his views on Saturday's friendly against Real Madrid after the 2-2 draw.

“We've had a good tour and I'm pleased with our progress. We've trained well and had some tiring matches. We could have done lots of things better but we're laying the groundwork for the season ahead. We've built up our fitness levels. I'm happy.”

Why have you made so many formation changes?

“I wanted to give the more experienced players some continuity but the youngsters have stepped up well too. I've tried to put all the players in the most suitable positions. We all know we still need to do. We'll have a couple of days' rest now then we'll get straight back to work.”

We haven't seen Christ Oulai and Nicolo Fagioli playing together yet. Why's that?

"If Oulai hadn't picked up a knock, I'd have played them together, but you figure things out as you work. There are lots of players who can play good football and the team needs balance, but there's no reason why I can't play them together. I like quality footballers.”

Did you talk to Jose Mourinho about Victor Valdepenas? What's your first impression of him?

“We didn't talk about the player. We spoke on two occasions but not about him. Victor wanted to start the game but I preferred to bring him on. He showed he has the potential to become a top player.”

Would you like to coach Franco Mastantuono?

“I have lots of players to work with and I'm happy with them. We saw how good our opponents were today and we managed to deal with the difficulties and get back in the game. We did the right things. We need to get to a high level and we'll be ready for it.”
