Monday was not a good night at Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park for Fiorentina Women. Despite creating many chances, the Viola lost 1-2 to Napoli at the Stadio Curva Fiesole. The game was marked by bad luck for the hosts as well as some key moments that did not reward the efforts made by Fiorentina.

Fiorentina dominated the first few minutes of the game: just 30 seconds into the match, Iris Omarsdottir won the ball from the visitors’ defense, found herself in front of their goalkeeper, Freja Thisgaard, but failed to score the opening goal. In the 10^th minute, Napoli took the lead: Cecilie Nielsen broke through Fiorentina’s defense after an unsuccessful clearance and beat Cecilie Fiskerstrand, making it 1-0.

It didn’t take long for Fiorentina to respond, but Napoli’s defense left no room for them to break through. In the 20^th minute, the visitors doubled their lead: an individual effort by Nielsen picked out Marija Banusic’s run, who made it 2-0. Just before the break, bad luck kept Agnese Bonfantini from pulling one back, as her shot struck the crossbar after beating the keeper.

In the second half, Fiorentina came out on the front foot. Bonfantini was the most dangerous, as she shaved the post twice in the first twenty minutes. In the 75^th minute Emma Severini, who was awarded for her 100^th appearance for Fiorentina just before the start of the game, served a very precise through ball to Bonfantini, but Thisgaard deflected it out for a corner.

Fiorentina’s onslaught bore fruit in the 81^st minute: Emilie Woldvik’s perfect cross from the flank reached Omarsdottir, who successfully headed it in. Towards the end, Fiorentina pushed with all the energy they had left, but Napoli were able to resist until the game was finally over.

Fiorentina’s next match will be against Inter, which is scheduled for Sunday at 15:45 CET at the Arena Civica di Milano.
