David de Gea was interviewed following Fiorentina’s training session today. Here’s some of what the Spanish goalkeeper had to say:
“Preparations are going well. We trained really hard out here, after doing some strength work in the gym. It’s easier to train here, as it’s colder. It’s going really well.”
“The coach has come in with great energy and positivity. He’s got a really clear idea on how he wants the team to play. I think the players have taken his concepts on board. We’ve had a few really good friendly matches. We’ll now be facing some tougher teams, so we’ll see how things go. We’re all really happy to be here and training well, so that we go into our first game of the season in the best possible shape.”
“The game against Manchester United will be really special for me. I played for a long time in England and it’s a pleasure to be back here playing in these friendlies, especially against United.”
“[Tommaso] Martinelli is a great lad. He loves to watch you and learn and asks you questions. He’s learning so much and in every training session you can see that he’s taking things on board and giving all he can. He’s a great person and great goalkeeper.”
“It’s better to be here with the squad from day one [compared to last pre-season]. I know all the players which makes things easier for me. It’s a different scenario.”
“I signed a three-year contract because I’m happy here. I love the team, the fans and the city. Florence is a great city. Let’s see if we can all have a great season together.”
“It’s really important for a goalkeeper to convey a sense of calm to their defence. That’s what I try and do in every training session, and not just on the pitch but also off it.”
