David de Gea reacted to the 1-0 win over Cremonese on Sunday evening to lift Fiorentina off the foot of the table.

“I think we deserved more in recent games and we’ve played well. That’s football and sometimes you don’t get the results, which is tough. We deserved to win today and got the goal in the last minute. We’re delighted as a team and for all the fans.

“We have to take it step by step. We know there’s a long way to go. I’m here to help the team. I know I’m needed to make good saves and I made one today. We scored straight after, so it’s the perfect evening. We’ve picked up three key points and have worked so hard. We were together for a training camp. The three points are fully deserved.

“If everyone improves a small amount, the whole team gets better. We’ve had good numbers in recent games and created chances. I feel we deserved more, but today we were rewarded with the late goal. It’s an immensely happy feeling at a particularly difficult time. I’m just delighted.”
