Technical Director Prade’s comments after Milan v Fiorentina

It’s certainly an unpleasant situation.

“We played as a team tonight. It was a tough game. We lost because of two key moments. In the first one we had 10 men on the pitch. The second was an outrageous penalty. I’d never seen anything like that. The VAR intervened on a decision that the referee had already made. The rule is that the referee consults the VAR only if he has made a very serious mistake. However, there was no foul. We lost the match because of a truly outrageous event.

“We’re disheartened, disappointed and sorry. We’re sorry for the president, our fans. I understand the frustration, as we only have three points after seven matches. That wasn’t our goal. I’m sorry because the owners, director Ferrari earmarked 90 million euros for the transfer window. If someone is to blame for this situation, that’s me.

“Coach Stefano Pioli is the only person who can get us out of this situation. This is just the start of the season; we have a whole season ahead of us and we have three goals we’ve set for ourselves: the league and the two cups. I can’t fault anyone tonight.”

It's too bad because it was a chess game and Fiorentina had found a way to win it with that opener. Then a couple of key moments influenced the team.

“We played the way we were supposed to. It was a tough game against a very good team, in a stadium with 71,500 people. Our stadium instead has 22,000 seats and the Curva Fiesole supporting us in all our matches. It’s not the same. This makes it harder for us. The question is for how long this will go on. The owners have done everything they could. And if we don’t get the results we want, I’m the one to blame.”
