Brescianini reflects on Cagliari defeat

Marco Brescianini spoke to the media after scoring his first goal for the club in Fiorentina's defeat to Cagliari.

“I wanted to start by saying that our thoughts are with the president's family and we want to express our gratitude for everything he did. Personally I didn't have the privilege of meeting him but I want to thank him for everything he did for Florence.

You started the game really well but then you ran into some problems. Why do you think you weren't able to get back into the game?

“We said before the match that we needed to start strong because Cagliari are a team that are difficult to break down when they sit deep. Perhaps we needed to be a bit bolder but in football it always comes down to the small details. Unfortunately we weren't able to turn it around today, although we the chance to equalize at the end.”

Cagliari's strategy was catenaccio, counter-attacks, time-wasting, fouls and gamesmanship. Do you think you fell into their trap?

“We knew about all these situations beforehand. Perhaps we could have been a bit smarter, although we tried to point it out to the referee. Hopefully we'll see less unsporting play like this in future.”

What did you make of your own performance? You scored one and could have had another.

“Yes, there were other chances I could have taken, today and in previous games. When you're there you only have a split second to think and on one of the occasions I was able to make the most of it and on the other I didn't. I try to use my skills to help the team and when we're attacking more I try to get into the box and get on the ball.”
