Bologna 1-2 Fiorentina: Mandragora and Piccoli give us three points

Fiorentina secured a well-deserved win over Bologna, after playing a good first half, handling the second half well and suffering in the end. Rolando Mandragora scored the opener and then Roberto Piccoli doubled our lead. Towards the end, Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian pulled one back for the hosts.

MATCH SUMMARY:

It was a very touching day at the Stadio Dall’Ara following the passing of President Rocco Commisso. Fiorentina got off to a great start in the first half, delivering a solid performance and scoring twice, first with Mandragora and then Piccoli. Towards the end of the game, Fabbian pulled one back for Bologna, making it 1-2, but the Viola nevertheless secured the win, bagging those three points in honor of their president, who was certainly proud of them as he watched this vital away win.

The two teams started the game with a similar attitude: both often tried to reach their respective centre-forwards with many duels in midfield. Fiorentina scored the opener in the 19th minute: Albert Gudmundsson was served from the left and crossed it into the middle to Mandragora, who scored a great goal. Fiorentina got another major chance in the 35th minute, with Mandragora taking a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, but the ball went just wide. Then Piccoli doubled his team’s lead in the 45th minute: Dodo carried the ball the full length of the pitch and whipped it in, with the ball taking a deflection off Remo Freuler and the number 91 scored, making it 2-0. The score at the break was 2-0 for Fiorentina, thanks to Mandragora’s and Piccoli’s goals.

Gudmundsson provided a great through-ball to Marin Pongracic in the 52nd minute, who found himself one-on-one with Federico Ravaglia, but the goalkeeper denied him. Then in the 85th minute Jonathan Rowe made a nice Marseille turn and took a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, hitting the post: the hosts were getting dangerous. In the 88th minute, Rowe crossed it in for Fabbian, who headed it into the bottom corner, making it 1-2. Nicolo Cambiaghi came very close to scoring in the 95th minute, but the match ended 2-1 for Fiorentina, with the team securing three fundamental points: it was also the team’s first away win of the season.
