Grosso discusses Fiorentina v Torino

Read what coach Fabio Grosso had to say after the match between Fiorentina and Torino.

The fans are against you. How do you feel?

“We’re very disappointed because this is not how we wanted to start the season. This game could’ve gone differently. We shouldn’t have given up. The fans supported us. The first half was hard. We got a chance early on but were unable to capitalize on it. We struggled in attack. Then in the second half we fared better, also thanks to our goal, which came with a bit of luck as well. Then we created more and came close to scoring a second goal. We conceded a goal that could’ve been avoided. Same thing with the second one. It’s a shame. But I’m a coach and I try to do my best. We’ll try again next time.”

The team doesn’t bounce back when things get hard.

“Certain things require time and you need to work on them. However, I’m the head coach and I take all responsibility. I’m happy to because that’s what I’m used to. Again, we’re disappointed because this is a city that deserves a lot more. We were convinced that we could achieve great things, but this start is certainly a major setback.”

We’re three games in and you’ve conceded nine goals and scored one. Are you starting to get worried?

“I’m always worried because that’s what you feel when you compete in a tough league and take on a big challenge. However, I want to stress that we had what it took to win today. Unfortunately, a few small mistakes got in the way. It’s a third consecutive setback, both for the fans and for us. And that’s where we need to pick up from to bounce back.”

What are your responsibilities for this poor start?

“I’ve faced many challenges in my career. The great thing about this sport is that you can enjoy great victories, but you also learn to deal with disappointments. I take full responsibility for this bad start of the season. The players gave it everything on the pitch. Sometimes it’s not visible because we still can’t capitalize on what we’ve worked on, but we’re focused on our next game.”
