Pinones Arce ahead of Napoli opener: “Identity and mindset”

The wait is almost over as the Women's Serie A finally kicks off on Saturday, with Fiorentina visiting Napoli on Matchday 1.

Ahead of the game, Pablo Pinones Arce is upbeat as he takes stock of where his team is at going into the new league season.

“I think you should always be ambitious at a club like Fiorentina and given the quality of players we have here it's only right that we should aim high,” the Swedish coach explains.

“However, we also have to remember where we are right now: we have lots of new players, new staff and a new playing style. We're working well and we're ambitious but we have to perform well.

“There are no easy games. I've watched some of Napoli's matches from last season and I've seen them this year too. They've changed quite a lot themselves and they seem to be playing with more confidence and an aggressive style of play. It's going to be a tricky away game but we know what we need to do.

“I try to read the players and understand how we're doing on a mental level. I think we're in a good place. We're working well and doing things well.

“We've played seven matches and won five, I think, so that's good for our belief. We have to keep it up. The girls have really bought into what we're doing and that's very pleasing.

“We've talked a lot about the identity we want for our team. We want to be bold. We must try to be in control of the game with and without the ball – that's very important. We have to keep trying to improve ourselves every day, believe in the playing style we've chosen and push as hard as we can.”
