The 2025/26 Women's Serie A Women kicks off the first weekend of October this year, later than normal due to the change of format and the inaugural Serie A Women's Cup. However, the delayed start has given the team the chance to work with new boss Pablo Pinones Arce.
Ahead of the Viola's opening match against Napoli (Saturday, October 4), Fiorentina striker Madelen Janogy sat down to talk about how the team is shaping up - and her relationship with Pinones Arce, whom she worked with and enjoyed considerable success with at Hammarby.
“I'm very happy that Serie A is starting soon. We've been working very hard for these first two matches. I hope we win but also play good football. They'll be two really good games. The league is very tough this year. We've had six matches to get to know each other. I'm very excited.
“I'm really happy to work with Pinones Arce again. I worked with him for three years and I really liked his style of play and leadership.
“I want to keep improving and do better than last season but above all I want to win. That's my number one target, for myself and for the team. We need to get points.
“There are lots of new foreign players here. It's nice. As the oldest of the group. I try to make them feel at home by explaining different things about Italy. It's hard at the start but that's normal. When I arrived here I had to make a mental switch to understand that the game is different here and the lifestyle is different. You have to keep calm, focus on your work and try to become the best version of yourself.
“It would be amazing for the team to lift a trophy. That's our goal and I think it's achievable. We must stay calm and do the right things. There are lots of excellent teams. We need to work hard, train well and be bold – and our playing style can help us to be bold. If we do things properly, I think we can win some silverware this season.”
