A press conference was held on Thursday to take stock of Fiorentina Women's season and look ahead to the future. General manager Alessandro Ferrari, sporting director Simone Mazzoncini and head coach Pablo Pinones Arce were all in attendance.
ALESSANDRO FERRARI
“I'm happy to see that there is interest in the women's game. We need everyone to help develop a system that is still struggling in Italy. The Commisso family has always bought into women's football. This was an important season for us. We have a coach with international experience and he has been a huge help in growing our youth academy. Mazzoncini and Pinones Arce have extended their contracts for another two years. The vision is to get young girls involved in this sport and give our younger player opportunities to play in Serie A.”
SIMONE MAZZONCINI
“I want to thank the Commisso family and Ferrari for renewing their faith in me. This season began with many changes and a strong team identity. At the half-way point we were doing well, then after the break we had some difficulties and slipped away from the top spots. The team picked themselves up again but there were some ups and downs which ultimately saw us finish fourth and disappointingly miss out on the Champions League. We're keen to go again now, adding some players who fit in with our coach's football ideas.”
PABLO PINONES ARCE
“I would also like to thank the sporting director, Ferrari and the Commisso family. We do feel rather disappointed. Without taking anything away from any of our rivals, there were games that we could have won. I want everyone to feel involved – we're a family. I've watched at least one match of every youth team and there are lots of positives for the future. We've brought lots of young girls up to the first team. I'm happy with how everyone has worked.”
