Fiorentina and Inter will face off this weekend at the Stadio Curva Fiesole on matchday two of this Serie A Women Athora season.
Inter are currently top of the table after matchday one, as they secured an overwhelming win over Ternana last week, while Fiorentina lost to Napoli and will have to fight to earn their first three points on Saturday in front of their fans.
Intensity, focus and aiming to win this time: this is what the team need to take on this match and what coach Pablo Pinones Arce has asked from his players. Kickoff at 17:30 CEST.
“When we re-examined the match we lost to Napoli, it was clear that we started struggling after the 30-minute mark. We weren’t brave enough to play the way we wanted to play. That was our problem. We do have the right skills and ideas to play well. But in that match, we struggled mentally, which made the game harder for us. We must understand why that happened.
“Looking back at the game against Inter that we lost 3-1, you can see that we struggled during the first four and a half, five minutes. We conceded two goals and that affected us throughout the rest of the match.
“In the couple of matches after that, we saw the Fiorentina we were looking for, with greater intensity, goal chances, forward runs and greater control over the game, as well as the ambition to win again. We haven’t had the best of starts this season, but I expect good results, as it’s what we’ve been working to achieve this week.
“We’re certainly up against a good team. They have been working together for quite some time, which can be seen in the plays they try to create. They have good players and they are a good team.
“We have to face every team with the right spirit. We are training well, but we need to realize that we are up against teams who are at a more advanced stage than we are. But we can still compete with all of them. We’ll prepare for our matches with the goal of winning.
“I immediately told the players and the technical and medical staff that we are going to focus on one match at a time. We’ve played against Napoli and now we need to move on. We’ve prepared very well for our upcoming match against Inter and that’s what we’re focused on right now.”
