Fiorentina Women

Fiorentina edged out by Roma

17 February 2024

Fiorentina Women's last match of the regular season ended in a narrow defeat to Roma.

Manuela Giugliano netted what proved to be the only goal of the game at the end of a first half with the visitors largely in control.

The Viola upped the intensity after the break and on 55 minutes Miriam Longo was denied a penalty after being brought down in the box.

Both sides then had chances to score before Roma keeper Camelia Caesar came up big in the dying moments, denying Alexandra Johannsdottir and Martina Toniolo to ensure victory for the reigning champions.

Fiorentina finish the regular season in third place and will square off against Roma, Juventus, Inter and Sassuolo in the Scudetto play-offs from mid-March.

Before then, the Viola will host Juventus at Viola Park on March 3 for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
