Fiorentina miss out on Super Cup after Juventus defeat

10 January 2021

Fiorentina Women were beaten 2-0 by Juventus in the Italian Super Cup final in Chiavari on Sunday.

After an evenly matched opening period, Juventus took the lead on 39 minutes. Barbara Bonansea picked up the ball on the edge of the box, beating one player in Fiorentina colours before shooting for goal – a wicked deflection left the Viola keeper with no chance.

Bonansea struck again ten minutes into the second half to leave Fiorentina with it all to do. This time, it was a fine finish from the Bianconeri striker which beat Katja Schroffenegger to find the far corner of the goal.

Nicola Melani turned to his bench to spark a reaction, sending on the likes of Greta Adami and Lana Clelland as the second half wore on, but there was to be no famous comeback as Juventus closed out the game to win the trophy.
