Pioli and Piccoli: “Positive going into Sigma game”

Stefano Pioli and Roberto Piccoli spoke to the media ahead of Fiorentina's Conference League opener against Sigma on Thursday. Here's what they had to say:

PIOLI

ROTATION - “The players will find out who's playing tomorrow morning. Everyone is fine except [Simon] Sohm.”

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – “My comments weren't misinterpreted. My aim is to raise our level. I like to believe in what we're doing because the players have lots of qualities. I made that comment about the Champions League at the start of the season to give us a sense of responsibility about having a great season. I'm still confident and positive.”

CONFERENCE LEAGUE – “This competition is one of our targets. We want to give it our best shot.”

PISA – “We could have been more concrete. I know what it means to coach Fiorentina. We must push on with confidence."

COMMISSO - “I speak to him every week and I talk to the club every day, especially when things aren't going so well.”

SIGMA - “Sigma are a good team – very physical. They don't score a lot but they have the best defense in their league. We must be very careful and show them the respect they deserve.”

CRITICISM - “The criticism is fair. I know how much the fans care about the team. I'm not happy either but I'm highly motivated and determined to get Fiorentina back to the level it deserves to be.”

PICCOLI

FORM - “We must keep working away and remain positive. Hard work always pays off. It always has.”

CONFERENCE LEAGUE - “Tomorrow will be my first European game. I'll be alongside my team-mates and my family will be there too. That's an extra reason to win.”

PRICE TAG - “The transfer fee that was paid for me feels like an honor – it doesn't weigh on me. I'm happy and I'll show my qualities on the field of play: my runs in behind, my movement and my presence in the box.”

RESULTS - “We're all aware of the situation. We have to do that bit more, be more determined and clinical if we want to win games. I'm paid to do my job, which is to score goals and toil on the pitch.”

FLORENCE – “The Fiorentina fans are very passionate and keep pushing us until the last second. We must try to get them all onside through our results.”
