Malen the danger man

With 11 goals and an assist in just 14 games since his January move from Aston Villa, Donyell Malen has quickly established himself as a key player for Roma and is undoubtedly the biggest threat for Fiorentina.

When the Dutch forward arrived in the capital, there was a lot of talk about where Gian Piero Gasperini would use him, given his exceptional versatility and experience of playing across the front line. The Roma boss quickly made it clear that he felt Malen's pace and clinical finishing could be best exploited at center forward.

It was a call Gasperini got right: despite having joined mid season, the flying Dutchman is in with a chance of finishing the campaign as Serie A's topscorer: the only players with more than his 11 are Inter's Lautaro Martinez (16) and Marcus Thuram (13) and Como duo Nico Paz and Anastasios Douvikas (12 each).

Indeed, since the introduction of three points for a win, only Gabriel Batistuta has made a better start to his Giallorossi career, while only Mario Balotelli is the only January signing to have scored more goals.
