Fiorentina v Roma stats and former faves

Fiorentina and Roma have locked horns 172 times in Serie A, with 51 Viola victories, 62 draws and 59 Roma wins. Fiorentina have scored 212 goals and Roma 225.

The Viola have had the better of their opponents at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, winning 36, drawing 33 and losing 17.

The Giallorossi triumphed the last time these two sides met – a 1-0 win at the Olimpico courtesy of Artem Dovbyk's goal – but Fiorentina are unbeaten in their last four home games against the side from the capital (W3, D1).

Gian Piero Gasperini has lost five of his last eight meetings with Fiorentina, while Stefano Pioli's career record against Roma reads played 33, won nine, drawn 10 and lost 14, with 53 goals scored and 64 conceded.

Pioli's head-to-head record with Gasperini is 11 wins, seven draws and nine defeats.

The all-time top scorer in matches between Fiorentina and Roma is Francesco Totti with 14 goals, followed by Viola legends Gabriel Batistuta (11) and Giancarlo Antognoni (nine).

Lots of players have represented both sides down the years.

Giancarlo De Sisti came through the Giallorossi youth academy, helped Fiorentina win their second Scudetto (1968-69), then rejoined Roma to see out his career.

Amarildo was another member of that title-winning team, spending three years in Florence before moving to the capital.

Roberto Pruzzo plied his trade at Roma for a decade before finishing his career with Fiorentina.

After nine unforgettable seasons with the Viola, Gabriel Batistuta joined Roma in 2001 and added a Serie A title to his honors list.

Midfielders David Pizarro and Alberto Aquilani also won over both sets of fans. The Chilean was a Giallorossi fulcrum for six years before switching to Vincenzo Montella's Fiorentina team, while the Italian made over 100 appearances for Roma prior to joining Pizarro in Florence to form one of the finest Viola midfields in recent history.

Mohamed Salah ignited the Franchi faithful with his goals and scintillating play during a six-month loan spell at Fiorentina in 2015. Soon after he made he move to Roma, where he racked up 34 goals and 21 assists in two seasons.

Finally, a special mention for Davide Astori: he spent one season at Roma before joining Fiorentina and becoming Capitano forever.

Plenty more have played for and/or coached both clubs. The legendary Fulvio Bernardini, for example, donned the Giallorossi colors from 1928 to 1939 then took charge of the team for one season in 1949. He would later guide Fiorentina to the club's first-ever Scudetto in 1955/56.

Cesare Prandelli was appointed as Roma boss in 2004 but stepped down before the start of the season to be beside his sick wife. He later spent five wonderful seasons in charge of Fiorentina, taking the team into the Champions League and overtaking Bernardini as the Viola coach with most victories.

Vincenzo Montella was a Roma player for nine seasons, including their 2000/01 title triumph, and had a brief spell in charge of the Giallorossi immediately after hanging up his boots. He then sat in the Viola dugout from 2012 to 2015, recording three back-to-back fourth-place finishes, and returned for a second stint in 2019.
